Drew Brees threw for 363 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another score, and the New Orleans Saints beat the New York Giants 49-24 on Monday night. The loss was the third in a row for New York (6-5), which dropped a game behind first-place Dallas in the NFC East.
After neither team scored in the first 15 minutes, Brees passed for three touchdowns in the second quarter, as the Saints jumped out to a 21-3 halftime lead. New Orleans (8-3) extended the margin to 35-10 at the end of the third quarter when tight end Jimmy Graham scored on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Brees. Graham had five catches for 84 yards and two scores. The Saints’ Lance Moore added five catches for 54 yards and two touchdowns, while Mark Ingram led New Orleans with 80 yards rushing and scored on a 35-yard touchdown run late in the game.
New York’s Eli Manning threw two touchdown passes to Victor Cruz in the fourth quarter, but the Giants never seriously threatened a comeback. Manning, who completed 21 consecutive passes at one point, finished with 406 passing yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Cruz caught nine passes for 157 yards and the two scores.
