Today, the Internet will protest two controversial anti-piracy bills: The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and its Senate companion, the Protect IP Act (PIPA). If you're having trouble with wikipedia, google, reddit, or any other crowd-sourced website, this is due to the current "Internet Blackout" that will continue throughout today.

The SOPA and PIPA bills are intended to strengthen protections against copyright infringement and intellectual property theft, however these bills are being viewed as infringing upon the first amendment.

So, what does all this mean for you and me?  It means websites that run on user generated content like youtube, wikipedia, reddit, and so on may cease to exist. The bills have been created to crackdown on on-line piracy, which I completely support. However, it seems the bigger picture as a result of these 2 bills could do way more harm than good.
