Lafayette Police will be checking for impaired drivers on our roadways starting at 9 o'clock this Friday night.

Lafayette Police Spokesman Corporal Karl Ratcliff says the officers will be looking to get inebriated drivers removed from the streets.

You can expect that the checkpoint will be within Lafayette's city limits, and the OWI checkpoint will wrap up at around 3 o'clock Saturday morning.

Do not be an impaired driver. Ratcliff says you should always pick one person in your group to stay sober that night to be able drive everyone home.

He adds that getting stopped for an OWI can be very expensive between the costs of lawyers and the courts along with losing your freedom if you are sent to jail.
