TRAFFIC ALERT: An 18-wheeler has crashed in an embankment on I-10. It happened in the westbound lanes just after 5 am at the Mills St overpass between Lafayette and Scott. That overpass is now closed until the scene is cleared. Traffic is being diverted at this time.

Scott Police Chief Chad Leger tells KPEL News the big rig will have to be unloaded before it can be moved. Crews are assessing if there is an underlying HAZMAT situation. Listen to the full interview below:

A witness tells KPEL news, the cab of the truck is resting against the guard rail near the top of the embankment. No other vehicles appear to be involved, but delays are expected. The driver of the truck is being treated for minor injuries. Chief Leger says drivers can expect delays for several hours.
