Retired General Russel Honoré Survives Massive Tanker Fire on I-10
A massive fire shut down I-10 East near I-310 in St. Charles Parish on Monday afternoon.
It was reported that a tanker was involved in a multi-car accident and burst into flames.
According to the St.Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne, the driver got out safely and no injuries were reported.
Retired Lieutenant General Russel L. Honoré was one of the vehicles that was involved in the crash.
Thankfully, Honoré is okay and was able to walk away from the accident without any serious injuries. Honoré is also crediting his Land Cruiser for saving his life.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said the crash happened before 9:40 a.m. near mile marker 209. The crash closed I-10 east, forcing traffic to be diverted to US Hwy 51.
The cause of the crash is still unknown at this time.
However, as of 7:30 p.m. the roadway is still blocked and traffic is moving slowly around where the crash took place. Authorities are advising motorists to expect heavy traffic in the area and to remain patient.
