Two people were shot to death on Tuesday afternoon in the lobby of a downtown Houston hotel in what police say was a murder-suicide.

It happened at the Marriott Marquis Houston on Walker Street around 3:33 pm.

According to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner, when officers arrived, they found a man and a woman dead in the lobby.

Finner described the victim as a female in her late 20s while the suspect was described as a Black male in his late 30s.

He confirmed that the shooting was indeed a murder-suicide.

"The gentleman did come in at some point...shot the female and then immediately shot himself," said Finner.

Investigators say they believe this is not a random shooting and that there was some sort of relationship between the two.

"Both of them came in with suitcases," said Finner. "They did have conversations that led people to believe they knew each other."

No others were injured, according to investigators.

The hotel is a popular getaway and many know it for its rooftop Texas-shaped pool.
