Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend before heading to Arrowhead Stadium early this morning and shot himself in front of some of the team's personnel, including head coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli.

According to the Kansas City police, Belcher and his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins got into an argument at approximately 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning at a residence in nearby Independence, Mo. Belcher then shot Perkins multiple times. She was then taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead. The couple also had a 3-month-old daughter.

Belcher then arrived at the team's practice facility at Arrowhead Stadium and then shot himself as police arrived on the scene. It was also reported that certain members of the Chiefs' staff tried to stop Belcher from committing any other acts of violence before he killed himself.

The team had this to say about the incident:

After discussions between the league office, Head Coach Romeo Crennel and Chiefs team captains, the Chiefs advised the NFL that it will play tomorrow's game vs. the Carolina Panthers at its originally scheduled time.
