The center of circulation of what used to be known as Barry is pushing into southern Arkansas this morning. While thousands remain without power, especially in St. Martin, St. Mary, and Assumption Parishes, and even more dangerous threat from Barry has manifest in the overnight hours.

Tropical rain bands associated with the remnants of the storm have been "training" over an area of the state from along and just north of I-10 near Lake Charles sweeping upward through portions of Jeff Davis, Allen, Beauregard, Evangeline, St. Landry, and Rapides Parishes.

Some of the rainfall reports from that part of the state indicate over a foot of rain has fallen in that area. This prompted high water rescues and evacuations in the overnight hours. These conditions have been exacerbated by darkness making it hard for residents to gauge the rising waters and for rescuers to get to them.

Details on just how many people had to be rescued and what roadways are impacted are unclear at this time. We hope to have further details later this morning as this is an ongoing weather-related event.
