A peaceful protest and vigil for Trayford Pellerin began at 5pm on the north side of Lafayette. Live video is showing protesters walking down Evangeline Thruway.

Pellerin was shot and killed last night by Lafayette police while attempting to enter a convenience store while armed with a knife, according to witnesses.

People took to Facebook to denounce the shooting, asking why several officers couldn't take down a man with a knife, while others say the police did the right thing by stopping him from walking into the convenience store with the knife. The investigation by the Louisiana State Police is still ongoing.

Witnesses say that Evangeline Thruway headed towards New Iberia (Southbound/Eastbound) is blocked on the north side of Lafayette.
