'LuLu', the latest album from Metallica and their first ever collaborative effort with former Velvet Underground frontman Lou Reed, continues to be given mixed to negative reviews. This is the first LP from Metallica not to reach number 1 on the Billboard charts in 20 years. In the United States, the album debuted at number 36 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 13,000 copies. The album's first-week sales is the lowest a Metallica album has sold in its debut week since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales data in 1991. The album also debuted at number 36 on the UK Albums Chart, selling 6,019 copies in its first week in the United Kingdom. Elsewhere, the album has so far debuted in the top 20 of the charts in seven countries.

Reviews have been so bad that one critic said "If the Red Hot Chili Peppers acoustically covered the 12 worst Primus songs for Starbucks, it would still be (slightly) better than this." I, myself, would not be surprised if the album did not reach platinum status, which would be a first for Metallica.
