Saturday across many cities in Louisiana was quiet in one aspect and rather raucous in others. In other words, the weather was quiet and calm but cities such as Lafayette, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Lake Charles each celebrated Saturday's break between storm systems with some enthusiastic gatherings involving St Patrick and rabbits.

However, conditions across much of Louisiana's I-10 corridor today will be less than ideal for being outside.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service Office in Lake Charles are monitoring showers and thunderstorms that are forming and strengthening rapidly along Louisiana's Gulf Coast. As of 3:30 this Sunday a growing thunderstorm complex was observed south of Cameron Parish, Louisiana. This storm appears to be moving quickly to the northeast.

Radar indicates more showers and storms are forming just off the Louisiana coast in the Gulf of Mexico. Those storms too will be moving in a northeasterly to easterly direction throughout the early morning hours of Sunday.

The Storm Prediction Center has much of the I-10 corridor under a marginal risk for severe storms. That forecast area might be expanded or upgraded when a revised forecast is issued around 7 a.m. Louisiana time. You can see the current SPC outlook, here. 

How Much Rain Will Fall in Louisiana Today?

The National Weather Service forecast calls for the possibility of one to two inches across much of area along and south of US-190. Higher amounts of rainfall are possible around some of the heavier storms.

The NWS forecast also suggests the rain will begin to end by 1 p.m. this afternoon. That would suggest that forecasters believe heavy downpours are very likely across South Louisiana between sunrise and lunchtime.

Cooler Temperatures for Louisiana Monday

The outlook for the workweek across Louisiana is quieter, calmer, and decidedly cooler. High temperatures on both Monday and Tuesday will be in the lower 60s, which is jacket weather for most of us. The overnight low temperatures will fall into the low 50s for tonight and the upper 30s as you begin your day on Tuesday.
