Giant Omelette Celebration in Abbeville Nov 7 & 8 [VIDEO]
The Confrerie D' Abbeville will present the 31st annual Giant Omelette Celebration in downtown Abbeville Nov 7 & 8. This festival is everything we love about south Louisiana - food, arts and crafts, and a 5,000 egg Omelet that adds one more egg for each yearly celebration. This year, there will be 5,031 eggs, and the omelet will be cooked by professional chefs from Louisiana AND France.
In addition to the fantastic lineup of entertainment, there are lots of arts and crafts vendors, who will be set up under the beautiful oaks in Magdalen Square, an antique implement show, Cajun Challenge Bicycle Ride, Antique Tractor Egg Cracking Contest, and on Sunday, the making of the giant omelet!
And don't forget about the Giant Omelette 5K and 2 Mile Fun Run, Saturday November 7th at 9:00 am , with warm-up exercises at 8:40 am. The location is on Concord St. in front of the Vermilion Parish Courthouse.
The official procession of the chefs through beautiful downtown Abbeville on Sunday is a sign that the cooking is about to begin! The recipe for the 5,000 egg omelet includes 5,031 eggs, 50 lbs. Onions, 75 Bell Peppers, 4 Gallons Onion Tops, 2 Gallons Parsley, 1 1/2Gallons Cooking Oil, 6 1/2Gallons Milk, 52 lbs. Butter, 3 Boxes Salt, 2 Boxes Black Pepper, 15 lbs of Louisiana Crawfish Tails, and TABASCO® Pepper Sauce (to taste).Whew! That's a lot of eggs, sha! There is also a Petite Omelette being cooked by young chefs, and is made with 600 eggs.
This is a great family event, in a beautiful setting, with such a unique take on one of our traditional cajun recipes, so make plans to bring everyone out for the fun.
