Drew Brees didn't play.  Neither did Phillip Rivers.

But their teams played, and the Saints won.

The New Orleans Saints broke a ten game preseason losing streak Sunday night, beating the Los Angeles Chargers 13-7 Sunday night.

With Mark Ingram, Adrian Peterson and Cameron Jordan also sitting out, it was the Saints' defense, especially the linebackers, that stole the show as the defense held the Chargers without an offensive touchdown.

Rookie Alvin Kamara scored on a 50 yard run just over a minute into the first quarter for the game's only offensive touchdown.  Wil Lutz nailed a 53 yard field goal later in the quarter to give the Saints a 10-0 lead.

The defense had eight sacks in the game, as linebackers A. J. Klein and Manti Te'o led the way.  Te'o had eight tackles, including three for loss, a sack and a fumble recovery.  Klein had five tackles and half a sack as New Orleans held the Chargers to just 158 total yards.

The Chargers' only touchdown came in the fourth quarter when Lutcher High product Dexter McCoil intercepted Ryan Nassib and returned it 99 yards for a touchdown.  Nassib played the entire second half ahead of Garrett Grayson.
