A 7-year-old canine named Duke won by a landslide in a mayoral race in the small town of Cormorant, Minnesota. He even beat out a human candidate for the position!

When I say small town, I mean small town. There are a total of 12 residents in Cormorant. Each resident paid $1 to cast their vote.

The winner is a 7-year-old Great Pyrenees named Duke. His pay is one year's worth of kibble donated by a local pet food store. Duke will hold the mayoral position for 1 year. He'll be sworn in on Saturday.

As for the human candidate:

"Poor Richard Sherbrook that owns the Cormorant Store, he didn't even have half as many votes as Duke did," local resident Tricia Maloney told area news outlet WDAY-TV.

Poor guy.

Apparently Duke is not the first non-human to be elected to public office. There's a cat that has been mayor of an Alaskan town for the past 17 years! He even survived an assassination attempt last year...the attempt was by a local dog.
