The Homeland Security Department of Acadia Parish along with the Acadia Police Jury are asking everyone in the parish to make a concerted effort to conserve water for the next few days.

Due to the cold temperatures, the demand for water has shot up, and unfortunately, the system is not able to adequately catch up right now. Homeland Security officials say that some people let their water run because they are worried about pipes bursting, but this and elevated usage has put a strain on the system.

The other problem? Officials are asking everyone to make sure they have no water leaks anywhere on their property.

It all boils down to this: the more conservation of water, the faster things will get back to normal for everyone.

Officials with the Acadia Parish Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness are asking everyone to do the following things:

  • You are being asked to look for leaks anywhere on your property.
  • You are asked to monitor your home and property to make sure that leaks do not occur.
  • Reduce the amount of water you are using immediately.
  • Do not let your faucets run overnight..
  • You are asked to take shorter showers.
  • You are being asked to reduce the number of times you are running your dishwasher.
  • You are being asked to reduce the number of times you are using your washing machine.

If you need to turn off the water valves in your home, officials say you need to contact the local water district.

You can call the Homeland Security Department at 337-783-4357 if you have questions.
