2014 Grammy Nominees For Best Metal Performance: Anthrax, Black Sabbath, Dream Theater, Killswitch Engage + Volbeat With King Diamond
Roadrunner Records / Liz Ramanand, Loudwire / Metal Blade
Metal may not get the wealth of recognition that other genres receive, but the big category that every metalhead music fan should be paying attention to is the Best Metal Performance category. The nominees for the 2014 Grammy Awards were just announced and there's a diverse group of acts populating the category.
The Best Metal Performance nominees include Anthrax, Black Sabbath, Dream Theater, Killswitch Engage and Volbeat featuring King Diamond. Of those acts, only Black Sabbath has previously won a Grammy in the category. They took home the Best Metal Performance in 2000 for their live rendition of 'Iron Man.'
With these nominees, you've got respected veterans like Anthrax, who were nominated for their cover of AC/DC's 'T.N.T' off their 'Anthems' collection, and Black Sabbath with their hit song, 'God Is Dead?' There's also representation from the prog metal community with Dream Theater's 'The Enemy Inside.' Meanwhile, Killswitch Engage and Volbeat represent metal's younger generation with 'In Due Time' and 'Room 24' respectively. The latter track, of course, also features a metal icon as King Diamond joined Volbeat on the song.
Congrats to all of the nominated acts for their great contributions to metal over the past year. They'll join musicians from all walks of life at the 56th annual Grammy Awards, which will take place Jan. 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The event will air live on CBS at 8PM ET.
