An Australian woman somehow knew that her pet goldfish was choking on a rock. So she did what every pet owner wouldn't do...took it to the vet where she was faced with a decision.

Emma Marsh, 21, of Brisbane, Australia saw her 1-year-old pet goldfish, Conquer, swallow a large pebble. She then rushed the goldfish to a specialty veterinarian. There, Marsh was faced with a dilemma.

She could pay 500 Australian dollars (which is equal to about $377US) to save the fish, or it would die.

I think it's obvious which one she chose. They put Conquer to sleep by putting drops of anaesthetic into Conquer's water until he fell asleep (how do you know when a fish is asleep?), and removed the pebble.

The emergency vet visit cost about $100 Australian, with the anaesthetic, and overnight hospital stay rounding out to another $400 Australian...All for a $12 gold fish.

Would you?
