Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top at the Cajundome
"The Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour" co-headlining tour began in July 2023, and now it's almost time to pull through Lafayette.
Lynyrd Skynyrd originally formed in 1964 under the name "My Backyard" in Jacksonville, Florida.
The band went through several name changes before finally deciding on "Lynyrd Skynyrd" in 1969.
The name was a mock tribute to a gym teacher at Robert E. Lee High School, Leonard Skinner, who was notorious for strictly enforcing the school's policy against boys having long hair.
ZZ Top formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas.
The band's classic lineup consists of vocalist/guitarist Billy Gibbons, bassist/vocalist Dusty Hill, and drummer Frank Beard.
Gibbons and Hill sported long, chest-length beards, becoming one of the band's most iconic visual trademarks, despite the ironic fact that Frank Beard, the drummer, usually had just a mustache or a short beard.
Sadly, in 2021, Dusty Hill passed away.
