Wayback Classic Track – March 7th
This week's Wayback Classic Track is actually not a rock song, but a song by the late, great David Bowie. Bowie was an icon, whose music career spanned multiple decades and multiple genres.
This week's track 'Fame', which has a funk sound, came from the Bowie album 'Young Americans', which was released on this day in 1975. The album was a departure from his already iconic 'glam rock' style. 'Young Americans' featured more of a 'pop rock' style and Bowie showed that he could tackle any genre of music.
Here's another fun fact about the track 'Fame': it was also co-written by John Lennon, who also sang backing vocals on the song. You might have heard of him. Check out the song below:
Here is another fact about the song: Bowie has said that it is his 'least favorite track' on the album. From a 1990 interview with Q Magazine:
"I'd had very upsetting management problems and a lot of that was built into the song. I've left all that behind me, now... I think fame itself is not a rewarding thing. The most you can say is that it gets you a seat in restaurants."
