Watch Termites Destroy Tiny New Orleans House From Inside Out [Video]
The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) are trying to figure out how Formosan termites find the most vulnerable areas of a home, and destroy it...quickly.
In this video, you'll see the NPMA put together this tiny house, built with working electricity, plumbing, and even dry wall. Just like you'd see in a regular sized home.
They then add about 500,000 termites, which is a moderate amount that is usually found in infested homes, and documented them going to work.
At the end of it all, the house was a total loss. In two months flat, the termites had found the vulnerability in the homes structure first, and moved throughout the rest of the house.
The termites leave behind mud tubes in place of wood construction. They use the mud tubes to travel within walls before moving on to flooring support.
Termites cause around $5 billion in damages each year in the US alone. Jim Fredericks, the chief entomologist for the NPMA says that, "everyone needs to be vigilant and have their home inspected on an annual basis"
