Police are seeking a suspect in the attack of a 30-year-old man downtown early Friday morning.

Joahua Richards, 27, is wanted for second-degree battery.

The victim told police he was walking down Jefferson Street shortly before 2 a.m. Friday when he bumped into the suspect.

Richard allegedly followed the victim near the intersection of Vermilion and Jefferson streets. When the victim turned around and faced Richard, he allegedly struck the victim twice around his face.

The victim fell to the ground, and Richard reportedly fled the scene on foot toward Jefferson Street.

Anyone with information on Richard's whereabouts is asked to call Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 337-232-TIPS.
