Trump Suggests Delaying 2020 Presidential Election
President Trump suggested today (07/30/20) on Twitter that maybe the 2020 Presidential Election should be delayed "until people can properly, securely and safely vote???"
President Trump has been expressing his concerns over universal mail-in voting ballots possibly leading to a huge voter fraud issue.
The full tweet from President Trump reads - "With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???"
From thehill.com -
"The tweet marked the first time Trump has raised the idea of delaying the November elections, an idea he previously rejected amid concerns about the coronavirus pandemic."
Legally, a U.S. President does not have the authority to delay the election according to CNN.com.
Thehill.com reports that in late April, Joe Bidden said “Mark my words: I think he is going to try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can’t be held. The only way [Trump] thinks he can possibly win.”
