President Trump’s Major Announcement – Digital Trading Cards
President Donald Trump has been teasing a 'major announcement' that was scheduled for today, and few people were able to predict what that announcement might be.
He's already announced his intention to run for President of the United States come 2024, so what could today's announcement be?
Announcing his running mate?
Announcing that he was creating a new political party?
The former president's message read: "AMERICA NEEDS A SUPERHERO! I will be making a MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT tomorrow. Thank you!"
I think that most people were surprised by his announcement, as it was all about a new business venture - digital trading cards.
Called NFT by those in the know, the digital trading cards are just what they sound like - digital cards containing President Trump's image.
Can you hold them in your hand? Nope. Can you lay them out on the counter next to the sink to admire while you shave? Nope. Can you put them in your back pocket and ride your bike to your friend's house to trade a few for his baseball cards? Sadly: nope.
What CAN you do with these digital trading cards? Admire them on your favorite screen and, if the cards are limited, hope that one day they will appreciate and maybe you can cash them in for your retirement.
These digital trading cards are called "NFT"s, or "non-fungible tokens" and, according to Simplilearn's website, "these cryptographic assets are based on blockchain technology. They cannot be exchanged or traded equivalently like other cryptographic assets".
I still don't understand, but that is beside the point.
Here is today's announcement:
The point is, President Trump has made the announcement, and now these NFTs are for sale - at $99 each.
The images on the NFTs range from him holding the Statue of Liberty to him wearing a superhero suit. And a spacesuit. And holding up a fist in front of a photoshopped Mount Rushmore (photoshopped to include his likeness on the monument).
With each card, he says, you have a chance to win "amazing prizes" like dinner with the former president or a round of golf with your buddies at one of his resorts.
One could also win a Zoom call with President Trump or even a one-on-one meeting or one of several autographed pieces of memorabilia.
Oh, I forgot to mention this - one of the NFTs is of President Trump riding a red, white, and blue elephant because, you know, it really happened, according to Jo and Becky Sue on Twitter.
Will these NFTs go up in value? Only time will tell, but the small print on the website reminds you that these NFTs "are intended as collectible items for individual enjoyment only, not for investment vehicles."

Of course, as you can see in the video above, many people are mocking the president about his new business venture - but I have to say, it's pretty smart of him to use his status of "Former President" to make money. A true entrepreneur!
It appears that, with the NFTs, there are several different images available, and some will be very rare - as in "one-of-one". Others will have a few copies available, according to the website,
Each Trump Digital Trading Card has a unique pre-assigned rarity. Some will be one-of-one’s (i.e. the only one in the world), while others will be limited to 2, 5, 7, or 10 copies. No Trump Digital Trading Card will have more than 20 copies in existence! - www.collecttrumpcards.com
This new business venture could be very lucrative for the former president.
Let's assume, for a moment, that just 1% of the people who voted for President Trump in the 2020 election decide to buy a card. Over 74 million votes were cast in 2020 for President Trump, and 1% of that is 740,000.
With cards selling at $99 each, the math tells me that over $73 million dollars would be generated from that sale. Not a bad deal, right?
Congratulations to President Trump on his new business venture (I'd still prefer a BobbleHead, though).
