Light a candle, say a prayer, be thinking about Ronnie Van Zant and the rest of Lynyrd Skynyrd tonight at 7PM. That will be exactly 35 years that their plane crashed when they were flying to Baton Rouge to play a show at LSU. Keep reading for a few more details of that night. 

It was 35 years ago tonight, Lynyrd Skynyrd played their 2ndstop (and final stop) on their new tour at the Greenville Memorial Coliseum. 
 
On the way from Greenville, SC to Baton Rouge to play a concert at LSU on that Friday night,  their chartered plane ran out of fuel and crashed near Gillsburg, MS.  It was Thursday night about 7 pm, October 20, 1977.
 
The crash killed lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and others.
 
Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer, Artimus Pyle, is from Spartanburg, SC.  He survived the crash and walked out through the swamp and woods to asked for help.
