The building at 422 Rue Jefferson in downtown Lafayette has been an icon for nearly a century. The building was part of the legendary Abdallas clothing store that opened in 1933. Today, 422 Rue Jefferson has been home to a costume rental outlet for over three decades...and it smells exactly like Dude Wipes, mint chill fragrance.

Over the years, vintage clothing, costumes and more inside the old Abdalla retail building have taken on a particular smell. Old buildings tend to have a smell in general, not necessarily a bad smell, just more of a unique smell. But because of all the antique clothing and costumes housed inside Old Vogue Costume & Theatrical Rentals, the old two-story building has a one of kind smell that people in Acadiana have talked about for years. If you spend just a few minutes inside the store, the smell jumps on your clothing as well.

If you meet someone who was inside of Old Vogue (but you didn't know that) you knew exactly where they had been. The smell lingers on you. But in a weird way, it's a comforting smell, almost like your grandmother's perfume. -Marilyn

In the coming months, the "New" Old Vogue Costume & Theatrical Rentals will eventually sell off all the vintage clothing, costumes, shoes, hats, jewelry, wigs, art and more to make room for new walls and decor that may scrub away that familiar smell that we all know. But as long as Dude Wipes continues to sell the mint chill fragrance wipes, Old Vogue can live in our noses long after the store closes and the new business moves in.

The "New" Old Vogue Costume & Theatrical Rentals in downtown Lafayette is selling its entire inventory to the general public. With the exception of a handful of costumes, everything must go. The new owner, Tanya Falgout, is selling all vintage clothing and costumes for the former rental prices. This opportunity is one in a million for anyone looking for vintage clothing, costumes, shoes, hats, jewelry, wigs, art and more.
