The Winery Dogs, ‘Oblivion’ – Exclusive Song Premiere
They rocked your world with their self-titled debut disc and now three of the most respected players in hard rock are on their way back with a new album. To kick things off, The Winery Dogs -- Richie Kotzen, Billy Sheehan and Mike Portnoy -- have teamed up with Loudwire to exclusively premiere their new single "Oblivion."
As you can hear, the song takes no prisoners, jolting listeners right out of the gate with nimble riffing and stellar musicianship. It's a high-energy rocker that makes a great first impression for the trio's upcoming Hot Streak album.
"The mission of this band is to write catchy songs, and not have the musicianship overpower them," says drummer Mike Portnoy. "That’s the icing on the cake -- but the cake itself is always the song and the vocals. Every song on this album is memorable and catchy, and you’ll wake up whistling them all the next day.”
With this being the band's second album, the group has taken every measure to make sure to avoid a sophomore slump, and singer-guitarist Richie Kotzen feels they've stepped up their game. “We elevated the band to the next level,” says Kotzen. “I wasn’t nervous about it at all. There’s always that worry with a follow-up record when you have a first one that’s so well received, but I believed in it from Day 1. I knew in my heart if we made a record that wasn’t as good as the first one that we wouldn’t release it, but I know I did my best on every song. I also like the fact that there’s a commonality between the first and second records -- and there’s also an evolution too, as we’ve dug a little deeper.”
Take a listen to "Oblivion" below and look for the song impacting at radio beginning tomorrow (Aug. 24). As stated, the track is featured on the group's Hot Streak album, which arrives Oct. 2. You can currently pre-order the disc at this location, and look for The Winery Dogs back on tour in October.
