It’s almost time for the doors to open at Bon Temps Grill’s new location and we can hardly wait. I had the opportunity to go for a tour yesterday and I have to tell ya, you’re going to love it. They gave me all the scoop for the new location and I’m going to give you the low-down on all of it.

Bon Temps Grill is best described as swamp edge cuisine in an urban Cajun atmosphere. When owners, Patrick and Steven O’Bryan, decided to move to the former location of Blue Dog Café, they knew that iconic building would provide the perfect opportunity to grow their restaurant.

Bon Temps Grill has been very successful on Verot School Road over the last seven years. So successful that they outgrew their space. When the Blue Dog Café building became available, they jumped on it. They have been remodeling the building to freshen it up and give it the Bon Temps vibe, but at the same time keeping the favorite features of the building alive.

The restaurant has three distinct rooms including the main dining room, the Louisiana Room, and the bar. The remodel has jazzed-up the place and given the building that cozy Bon Temps atmosphere we all love.

The first thing you’ll notice is a new entrance which provides a warm welcome and a better flow. The second you walk in you notice the rustic-bougie feel. They brightened up the main dining room, added the booths we all love, and arranged the seating so that everyone can enjoy the beautiful fireplace.

The Louisiana Room can hold regular seating, but it can also be closed off for private parties. It’s the perfect setting with the courtyard attached to accommodate large groups.

One of the coolest decisions they made was to feature artwork from a local artist. Rodney Lewis creates wood art that showcases the outdoors of Louisiana.

The bar is going to be amazing. Patrick O’Bryan said he was trying to think of a great name for it. I suggested the Alligator Lounge and it sounds like he may go with it. The iconic bar area will still have many of the same features, including the stage for live music. Live music will be a great addition for Bon Temps Grill, as they didn’t have the space to provide it at the Verot School location. There will be plenty of seating, including two prime spots in the bar area. The two hot spots will be the big round table that seats 8 on the side of the stage, and the “Alligator Booth”, that I personally think they should call “The Bougie Booth”. The Alligator Booth is a hot-pink booth made out of alligator skin that seats up to TWENTY people. Some really cool touches have been added at the bar like these decanter pendant lamps pictured below. It will be the perfect place to relax and have fun.

Behind the bar will be the master crafters. Their bar menu will include craft cocktails, an expanded wine list, whiskey flights, tequila flights, and much more. Happy Hour will be Monday – Friday, 2-6 pm.

Now, let’s talk food.

While keeping all the Bon Temps favorites that everyone loves, they will add a lot of new things to expand their menu. They will now offer a lunch menu that will offer a quick lunch at a great value and a New Orleans style Jazz Brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.

The lunch menu will include things like soups, salads, and sandwiches. But not just any soup or sandwich. We’re talking about sandwiches like a Boudin Grilled Cheese, Twelve Napkin Roast Beef, and a French Dip. Imagine pairing one of those sandwiches with some Corn & Crab Bisque or Tomato Basil Soup.

Sean Little, Executive Chef, said some of the new things they’ll be adding to their main menu will be Prime Rib everyday cut to order, an expanded steak selection, Fried Catfish Acadian, and more.

The Jazz Brunch sounds amazing and  I am pretty sure I will be a regular brunch-goer. It will be A-la-carte, not buffet style. You will have things on the menu like Crepe Florentine, King Rex Seafood Pasta, Praline Chicken and Waffle sandwich, just to name a few. Little said they will also do some fun things like a Fudge Board, which includes chocolates, fudge, and pralines.

I have no doubt that Little will be getting really creative in that kitchen. And he’s no stranger to that kitchen either.  Ironically, Little ran that kitchen at Blue Dog Café for five years, then moved to Bon Temps Grill. Now he’s back in the same kitchen. Little said he will do a “Blast From the Past”, and put the popular Blue Dog Café Crawfish Enchiladas on the menu.
