Actor Rhys Ifans, who is playing the villainous role of Dr. Curt Conners aka The Lizard, in next summer's "The Amazing Spider-Man", was arrested for misdemeanor simple battery at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con convention last night.

According to police, Ifans smelled the alcohol, and shoved a female security guard right before the "Amazing Spider-Man" Comic-Con panel Friday night. It occured after a member of his entourage was not allowed into the panel's hall for not having proper credentials. Ifans became irate and shoved the female to get through. He participated in the panel then the guard made a citizen's arrest.

"He was aggressive and belligerent," Lt. Andra Brown said of the Welsh actor. "He was... berating everyone from the security staff to the United States of America. He was cited and released, which is a non-custodial misdemeanor arrest. But, according to him, the U.S. sucks and he doesn't want to come back."

The San Diego City Attorney will now determine whether to pursue charges. Ifans could be required to pay a fine, or could contest the case before a judge. Ifans is best known for playing Adrian in "Little Nicky" and most recently Xenophilius Lovegood in "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 1". A spokesman for Sony said that Ifans "deeply regrets the incident."
