Former Pantera and current Down frontman Philip Anselmo doesn’t expect to release his solo debut album until next year, but he’s getting a jump on things by delivering a pair of still-to-be-determined songs to be used as part of split release offerings with the band Warbeast.

If you weren’t able to catch Phil Anselmo in action earlier this year as he took the stage for the Metal Masters 3 Clinic, don’t worry, he is hitting the road with his band Down later this year.

Phil Anselmo is a busy man. While we spoke to the singer about the 20th anniversary reissue of Pantera‘s ‘Vulgar Display of Power,’ we also asked about Down‘s upcoming planned series of EPs. Turns out that there are lots of ideas floating around, with one EP recorded and ready to go.

The 2012 Scion Rock Fest is set to hit Tampa, Fla., and its free to the public. This year’s spectacle takes place on June 2, just in time for the summer swelter. Down and Sleep are set to headline the event, where 26 metal bands will perform at four different venues throughout the course of the day. The city of Tampa will never, ever be the same.

A metalhead’s work is never done. The always-prolific Phil Anselmo, who always seems to have several irons in the metal fire, is working hard on some brand new solo material. The former Pantera singer, who has also recently been laying down tracks on a Down EP, is working with a band on this other project, according to his boarder Mike Williams of Eyehategod fame.

It is official. In an interview with Patrick Musumeche of 8countnews.com, Rex Brown has officially left Down as their bass player. Pat Bruders from Crowbar is now the band's official bass player.

Down recently weighed in on the switch from LPs to EPs (read Tard's post here), and now frontman Phil Anselmo has urged fans to send good thoughts to bassist Rex Brown, saying he needs "positive thoughts sent his way while he deals with some personal demons."

Down's Phil Anselmo was bloodied last night after an on stage accident involving Down guitarist Pepper Keenan. The band had just ripped into "Lifer" when Phil's head had a brief introduction with the headstock of Pepper's guitar, and Phil's head was busted open and bleeding as a result...
