Whenever I travel abroad I'm always keenly aware of signs of home. In many cases that sign of home is in the form of a small glass bottle filled with a delicious pepper sauce. I don't know how many times I have explained to people in other lands that I am from the land of Tabasco Sauce. Now the folks at Tabasco are looking to invite visitors from other lands or right down the road to come experience Avery Island.

The Vice President of Administration for the Tabasco company, Cecil Hymel,  says that a new restaurant and expanded tour hours are just part of the plan to bring in more visitors.

Folks can see the peppers growing in a green house, we will have an areas where they can go in a look at the mash barrels stored in the warehouse for three years, we will have an area where they can see the sauce being processed.

This will allow visitors a chance to see a part of the Tabasco operation that have not been available on previous public tours. There is also a museum that is set to open in the fall of this year.

We're going to make this a top destination we feel in America. We've looked at some other tourist destinations and we really put a lot of time and effort and resources into this.

Hymel made his comments in a story published by the Louisiana Radio Network. He says the new restaurant should be open August 10th and it will operate under the name "1868". The menu will reflect foods that feature the flavors of the companies seven varieties of  pepper sauce.
