‘Stygiomedusa Gigantea’ – Rarely Seen Deep Sea Jellyfish Recorded In Gulf Of Mexico [Watch]

A giant, rare deep sea jellyfish called "Stygiomedusa Gigantea" has been caught on camera in the Gulf Of Mexico. It's unlike anything I've seen, well maybe in my nightmares.

As you can see, instead of tentacles, this bad boy has more like thick, rubber looking strips. No one is certain how these strips function, because this is only the 115th time the creature has ever been spotted. BBC scientists say that these strips don't sting like traditional jellyfish tentacles.

When things like this are seen, I can't help but wonder how many things lurk around in the ocean we don't know about, and possibly never will.
