Duson Police are on the scene of a pedestrian crash involving a student who was crossing the road to board a school bus.

According to police, the crash took place in the 1000 block of Riceland Road (LA HWY 719) and the student has been transported to a local hospital "with non-threatening injuries." Police say the driver struck the student after mistaking the bus for a utility vehicle. Poor street lighting and fog were also contributing factors.

At 6:15 AM an unidentified driver mistakenly associated the flashing red lights of a school bus with that of a utility or construction truck and continued past the stopped bus as the child was crossing the road to board the bus, the child was struck by the vehicle traveling on Riceland Road. Contributing factors in this crash include poor street lighting and fog in this very rural area.

This case remains under investigation.
