State Warns Of Phone ‘Rebate’ Scam In Lafayette
The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services is sending out a warning of a potential scam reported in the Lafayette area. The scam involves phony rebate cards.
The scammers are trying to get credit card information out of people.
The scam starts with telling the potential victim that they have won a Walmart rebate card that can be picked up at their local "Food Stamp Office." The scammer then asks for a credit card number, and tells the potential victim that they will be charged $1.95 in order to receive the rebate card.
The Department of Children and Family Services stresses that they do not participate in giveaways and will never ask for credit card information from clients.
