It was time for this to happen.

LSU has announced that it will be erecting a statue of a former student-athlete and it will be the first statue of a female athlete on the LSU campus.

Seimone Augustus will be given her own statue on campus, and she will join others like Shaquille O'Neal, Bob Pettit, Pete Maravich, Skip Bertman, and Bill Cannon with statues on the LSU campus

Augustus played for LSU from 2002 to2006 and she was a two-time All America while at LSU. She was also the two-time Naismith Player of the Year award winner.

While at LSU Augustus lead the Lady Tigers to three straight Final Fours. Yes, you can argue that Augustus put LSU Women's Basketball on the national map.

In 2010, LSU retired her jersey number (33), making her the first female in LSU sports history to have her number retired and put into the rafters of the PMAC.

After her years at LSU, Augustus played in the WNBA and even represented our country in the Olympics. In both, she won championships and gold medals.

I recall recently recall seeing an interview with LSU Women's Basketball Coach Kim Mulkey where she advocated for Augustus to have her own statue on campus, and now it will happen.
