Lafayette Police are currently investigating an early morning shooting at Moore Park.

Sgt. Wayne Griffin with Lafayette Police says that officers responded to shots being fired at a large gathering in Moore Park. Upon their arrival officers found four victims with gunshot wounds. The officers immediately began to administer first aid to the victims and were soon joined by Acadian Ambulance. Two of the victims succumbed to their injuries. Another victim was reported to be in stable condition and a fourth victim was treated and released.

Two victims, Jakyrie Clark, B/M, 19 of Lafayette and Nathaniel Sharply, B/M, 18 of Lafayette succumbed to their injuries.

The incident happened at a large gathering in Moore Park during the late night/early morning hours around 1 a.m. in what Griffin described as a large gathering of at least 300 people who were there for a party after the UL game. A fight reportedly broke out which is when Griffin says gunfire followed shortly after.

Griffin says police weren't aware of the large gathering until gunfire was reported.

When asked by reporters why the gathering wasn't reported sooner by park police, Griffin said the parks are currently being monitored by the Lafayette Police department after park police were wiped away within the budget cuts to parks & recreation by Mayor-President Josh Guillory earlier this year—something Guillory confirmed to our KPEL News team during his appearance on this week's "Lafayette Live."

Sources tell our news team that people at the large gathering gained access by "pushing through" a locked gate and used power from a concession stand in the park to power speakers for a DJ.

Lafayette Police say the investigation is still ongoing and they don't currently have any leads. Anyone with information is advised to call 232-TIPS.

We will update this developing story when more information is available.
