Saints Preseason Woes Continue
No, the games don't mean anything.
But it sure would be nice to see the Saints win a preseason game.
New Orleans suffered its tenth consecutive preseason loss, falling at Cleveland to the Browns, 20-14.
Rookie DeShone Kizer threw a 45 yard touchdown pass to Jordan Payton with 1:58 remaining in the fourth quarter for the game winner.
The Saints got on the board with a 22 yard field goal by Wil Lutz after the offense bogged down in the red zone. But after Saints quarterback Garret Grayson fumbled, the Browns capitalized with Matthew Dayes scoring from a yard out to give the Browns a 7-3 lead. Lutz drilled a 42 yarder with less than a minute left in the second quarter to trim the Cleveland lead to 7-6 at halftime.
The Saints drove 50 yards and got a touchdown early in the fourth quarter when quarterback Ryan Nassib hit Tommylee Lewis with a two yard touchdown pass and a two point conversion gave the Saints a 14-7 lead. But Cleveland came right back and scored on a Terrance Magee one yard run to cut the lead to 14-13. The two point conversion was no good.
Rookie Alvin Kamara led the Saints in rushing with 35 yards on just four carries. Lewis had a big night with ten grabs for 124 yards and the only touchdown for the black and gold.
Quarterback Drew Brees and running backs Mark Ingram and Adrian Peterson did not play in the contest.
