A couple of road improvements announced today involving Kaliste Saloom Road, E. Broussard Road, and Robley Drive will look to make lives much easier for residents and people who drive through those areas often and on a daily basis.

KALISTE SALOOM ROAD TO E. BROUSSARD ROAD

A 2.2-mile project is in place that will widen the stretch of Kaliste Saloom Road to E. Broussard to five lanes, with a center turn lane, sidewalks, and a roundabout at E. Broussard near Cue Road.

According to Chief Communications Officer Jamie Angelle with Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory's Office, the segment from E. Broussard Road to Grande Pointe Apartments is approximately 70 percent done. This includes pavement construction at the intersection north of the bridge at Grand Pointe Apartments on Kaliste Saloom Road, repaving a portion of “old” Kaliste Saloom Road, and a newly constructed bridge over the Isaac Verot Coulee. Angelle says the multi-lane roundabout is approximately 50 percent complete.

Angelle also points out that the work being done on the section of Kaliste Saloom from Grande Pointe Apartments to Ambassador Caffery is 55 percent complete when it comes to drainage work and 25 percent complete when it comes to the roadway base. In approximately two weeks, the contractor will begin laying concrete on that segment.

E. BROUSSARD ROAD @ ROBLEY DRIVE

Lafayette Parish Councilman John Guilbeau says on his Facebook page that a right turn lane is being added from Robley to E. Broussard. He says Slemco crews are in the process of moving power poles to make room for that work.

“Looking beyond, I plan to continue my efforts for the installation of a signal light at the intersection to improve the safety of the intersection,” says Guilbeau.

Guilbeau also points out that highway crews are expected to do a complete overlay of Robley from E. Broussard to the parish line within the next couple of months. For those who drive through that area, they know that Robley is an incredibly bumpy road and the potholes on it have been filled recently. But this overlay would address the situation significantly better.

“This project, coupled with the Kaliste Saloom and Johnston Street projects, when complete, will certainly make our travels much better in the area.” says Guilbeau.
