Return of NOLA’s Hubig’s Pies is Coming Soon

If you grew up in Louisiana, there's a pretty good chance that at one time or another you enjoyed a delicious fried hand pie from Hubig's Pies in New Orleans. They were based out of the Marigny/Bywater neighborhood in New Orleans for over 100 years, but you could find them at convenience stores, gas stations, and small restaurants all over the state. Their mascot was called Savory Simon, and he was prominently featured on the packaging and most of the advertising for their pies. They were a true Louisiana treasure.

On July 27, 2012, the Hubig's Pies factory burned to the ground in Faubourg Marigny, and generations of fans were heartbroken. And we've been waiting a long time for an update on when the flaky pastries would be available to the public again. Well, good news. Andrew Ramsey, who is the general manager of the family-owned business tells NOLA.com that the return of the freshly fried fruit treats is on the horizon. Although he is reluctant to give a precise timeline, he does reveal that it is only a matter of months.

After delays, and of course a huge setback because of the pandemic, the company now has a new production facility near the Huey P. Long Bridge on Jefferson Highway. The company is bringing back some former employees and looking for new ones as well. But one thing that won't change is the beloved pies themselves. They are keeping their traditional flavors of apple, peach, pineapple, coconut, chocolate and lemon, and will be bringing back seasonal flavors like blueberry, blackberry, sweet potato, and cherry as well.
