Wet, brown, and cold, that pretty much sums up what is waiting for you the moment you set foot outside your door this morning. Mother Nature is serving up a raw day and she's serving up with a heaping helping of rain too.

Forecasters say the threat of rain will linger across Acadiana for much of the day today. We should finally start to see a break in the showers by about 7 pm tonight. That's the bad news. The good news is that once the rain moves out later this evening we should have some pretty nice days just in time for a big parade weekend.

Temperatures today will hover basically where they are. As of early this morning, the temperature in Lafayette was 57 degrees. That might be as warm as it gets today. That's because as this rain moves through it will drag colder air into the area behind it.

Forecasters suggest that our afternoon temperatures will be in the upper 40s by early this evening and drop to very near freezing by in the morning. Of course, the clouds will need to move out of the area rather quickly for the really cold temperatures to materialize.

The outlook for Friday and all the Mardi Gras fun scheduled at Cajun Field is clear and cold. Friday night and Saturday should feature great weather too, but remember your jackets, coats, gloves, and warming beverages along the parade routes.

The outlook for Lundi Gras and Mardi Gras still holds a threat of showers but that rain threat appears to have lessened. Temperatures will also moderate over the weekend and into Fat Tuesday's celebrations.
