ZipRecruiter Posts Pet Bather-Groomer Job Listing for $6,000 Weekly Salary in Lafayette, LA

Playing with fuzzy fur babies all day may sound like a dream job, and for some pet-loving job seekers in Lafayette, those dreams became a reality.

Well, at least they seemed like a reality for those who stumbled upon a local Ziprecruiter job listing from PetSmart that offered a weekly salary of $6,000 for a Bather / Groomer Trainee position in Lafayette, LA.

I first saw the listing posted by a few friends on social media. This couldn't be real, right? A $300,000 annual salary for a trainee? In Lafayette? Louisiana?

I knew it immediately looked too good to be true, so I dug deeper on the ZipRecruiter website, and after having to jump through 17 hoops and attempted automated "chat with an expert" nonsense, I find what I'm looking for.

The best job offer in Lafayette was staring back at me in all its $6,000 weekly glory.

I grabbed my keys, fully ready to quit my career in radio—but before I took the drive down to Johnston Street to apply in person with zero experience, I decided to give them a call.

An associate answered the phone, and I asked her about the job listing. I could tell that my telling her about the job offer was the first time she was hearing about it as she uttered "that sounds... fake" through a half laugh.

I put my keys down and took my work polos out of the trash can. I began to spray them with Febreeze while I continued my conversation with the female PetSmart associate on the other end of the line.

She told me she would ask a manager about the gig after I explained that I was looking at the to-good-to-be-true offer on the ZipRecruiter website. I asked her if she would be asking for a raise if the gig was real and she gave me a confident "yes" as she continued to laugh on the other end of the line.

At that point, my bather/groomer hopes were shot, and I gave her my number if her manager wanted to call me back to confirm that the job offer was posted in error—orrrrrr hire me for $6,000 a week.

Either way, I'm here to tell you that the job isn't a real offer (as if you needed me to confirm) but it's definitely entertaining and funny—and that can't be said for much on social media these days.
