Kid Rock received an award from the Detroit branch of the N.A.A.C.P. last night despite the protests  outside. The controversy was over Kid Rock using the Confederate flag during his performances.

Some protesters went as far as burning replicas of the Confederate Flag.

Detroit NAACP President Wendell Anthony said "We're not lifting up the flag. We're lifting up a gentleman who has worked very hard to be a booster for Detroit."

With all of the criticism surrounding the honor, Kid Rock used the event to diffuse the controversy when he accepted the award and then turned around to announce $100,000 in donations. Kid Rock also had this to say, "I've never flown that flag with hate in my heart, not one ounce. I love America, I love Detroit and I love black people!"

I never felt as if Kid Rock were racist by his use of the Confederate Flag but understand the negative tones associated with it. What do you think?
