Wooderson in Dazed and Confused was Matthew McConaughey's first big screen role. When he was trying to get into character, not shockingly, weed played a factor. But he also happened to be listening to a live album by The Doors. Jim Morrison inspired Wooderson's "alright alright alright" catchphrase!

In the video above, Matthew McConaughey is telling the story about how Wooderson's catchphrase came about:

I get in the car, I’m nervous, first scene on film. Right before we’re about to shoot, I’ve got friends in the car … and I’ve been listening to this live Doors album, and in between two of the songs, Morrison goes ‘alright, alright, alright, alright.’ So right before we’re about to go, I’m like, what is Wooderson about? And I go, man, he’s about four things: He’s about his car, he’s about getting high, he’s about rock and roll, and picking up chicks. And I go: I’m in my car, I’m high as a kite, I’m listening to rock and roll – action! — and there’s the chick. 'Alright alright alright'...Three outta four!”

Straight from the horses mouth! That's how Wooderson was born.
