Fox8 in New Orleans uncovered a story that shows your tax dollars are going to a non-profit that no longer exists.

This is the last thing we want to hear when the Louisiana government wants to increase our taxes because of the budget crisis we're in.

Not only does the non-profit no longer exist, but it hasn't been operating since 2012! And every year, the state sends $100,000 to the New Orleans Urban Tourism and Hospitality Training in Economic Development Foundation. By every year, that includes this year.

Come August, the state will send another check for $100,000 of tax payers money to the defunct non-profit, and Senator JP Morrell says there's nothing that can be done about it now.

"We can't introduce any new bills so it's impossible this session," said Sen. J.P. Morrell, D- New Orleans. "The state will probably miss out on that $450,000 as far as being available during the budget crisis."

Only the Legislature can change the law. With the current legislative session coming to an end, more than likely, nothing will be changed.

According to a letter from the former board president of the Urban Tourism fund, after the group decided that it would no longer operate, they asked for allocation for the money to go to Medicaid.

Back in 2011 it appears the money was allocated. Every year since then, though, the foundation has received a check for $100,000 of tax payers money.
