Went mud riding this weekend? Better clean your plate. Louisiana State Police have announced stepped up enforcement of the statute that requires a viewable license plate. This includes restrictions on plate covers that are tinted, blurred or mirrored, or even if your license plate is obstructed by mud, dirt or a rear carrying rack.

State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmonson spoke with WAFB recently, saying "It is imperative that the numbers or letters on the tag be visible and readable." According to Edmonson, "When they are obscured it impairs accurate reporting by citizens who are attempting to provide police with information on reckless or impaired drivers, motor vehicle crashes, and vehicles involved in criminal acts."

The average amount of a fine could range from $100-$200.
