Voter-driven initiatives have led to the legalization of marijuana in Colorado, Washington state and Washington D.C. and now one Louisiana legislator is proposing the same thing for the election in 2016.

Rep. Dalton Honore, a democrat out of Baton Rouge, has put in a legislation for the legalization of marijuana to be decided by the voters in the 2016 election. That will also be on the same ballot as the next presidential election and seats in congress.

In a LSU survey last year, 79 percent of Louisiana citizens said they support some marijuana legalization. If Honore's initiative were to be passed, people in Louisiana over 21 years-old would be able to carry and purchase marijuana without the threat of being arrested.
