Louisiana will be represented in a national singing competition.

Stop me if you've heard that one before.

It seems like every time there is a reality show based around singing or musical performance, Louisiana always manages to make a big splash. This time around the show is the reboot of American Idol and the talent is a kid by the name of Laine Hardy.

Laine is a 17-year-old high school senior from Livingston who attends French Settlement High School. You've probably seen his face on the numerous ads that have been running for ABC's reality show 'American Idol' (formerly on FOX) but tonight (March 12) you'll get to see him in action.

The show debuted last night, and while reviews were mixed, there should be a decent audience tuning in tonight when we find out how Hardy fared in front of the Idol judges.

According to The Advocate, Hardy picked up a guitar at age 7 and hasn't looked back. He plays with his band, The Band Hardy, and his musical background his heavily influenced by the sounds he heard growing up.

I grew up around old country, classic rock and swamp pop. I play country, blues, and classic rock and swamp pop now.

Hardy says his mom is the one who convinced him to try out for Idol, and when he got his shot in the audition room at Mardi Gras World in New Orleans there was only one word to describe the experience: Nervous.

It was a blur once I got on the stage because it was so unreal to me, and I couldn't believe I was right in front of these judges.

Show rules don't allow Hardy to talk about what happens on his Idol path, but we'll be sure to tune in.

The Advocate lists numerous other Louisianians who will be on the reboot of American Idol, but we don't know their air dates at this time.

Hopefully, someone from the Boot State will advance deep into the competition.
