Louisiana Doctor Sentenced For Photographing Patients Genitals

Dr. Peter Raymond LaFuria pleaded guilty in state district court to five counts of video voyeurism, five counts of sexual battery, five counts of molestation of a juvenile and five counts of obscenity.

The 65-year-old from Lake Charles, Louisiana was sentenced to eight years in prison, without benefit of probation or parole, and probation for five years after his release. He will also have to register as a sex offender.

 

[District Attorney John] DeRosier said it is believed that LaFuria began taking photos of his patient's genitals in 1998, when digital cameras became prominent.

About 180 cases were prosecuted - LaFuria was originally indicted on 269 felony charges.

The case involved thousands of photos, which will be kept under seal and eventually will be purged, DeRosier said.
