Saturday, May 5th people who don't know anything about horse racing will become experts on horse racing. It's what we do when the Kentucky Derby rolls around the first Saturday in May every year. I like horse racing. I will tell you that I am no expert on handicapping horses. However, this year, I know who will win the Kentucky Derby.

Over the next several days you will hear about horses trained by legends like Bob Baffert, D.Wayne Lukas, Todd Pletcher and others. You will hear compelling stories of the jockeys who will ride these high dollar horses. What you probably won't hear about from the national media is the long shot that will shake up everyone's Derby ticket.

Being in Louisiana, the cradle of champions, you know the name Desormeaux as it relates to horse racing. We all know about Kent Desormeaux an incredible rider and always a great interview. But do you know Keith Desormeaux? The people in the horse business know Keith. Keith knows horses and the Desormeaux connection is what sealed the deal for me when it came to "my sign from above".

The other "sign from above" is the way my pick runs. He is a closer. I like horses that run strong late. In a crowded Derby field, the ability to charge down the stretch and make your own lane are imperative when it comes to winning. This horse has that running style.

By the way, it's not like the horse I am sharing with you isn't a proven performer. He's already shown his stuff in the  Louisiana Derby, he's won at Keeneland, and starred at Santa Anita. He is no stranger to running in the money against stout competition.  His best race is set to happen on May 5th.

Oh yeah, there is one other reason I really like the horse from Don't Tell My Wife Stables it's his name. My Boy Jack is what they call him. The same thing I call my oldest child. My Boy Jack is currently at 20 to 1. Those odds will likely come down as we get closer to May 5th. Still, he should provide a nice payday for the informed hunch players like me.
