Lafayette To Get New Park?

More green space and a relaxation oasis may still be in Lafayette's future. Plans for the city to purchase the UL horse farm are moving through the aisles of government, with the latest vote recently completed. According to katc.com, the plan to transform the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's 100-acre horse farm into a park is still very much a work in progress following the City-Parish Council's approval to borrow $6 million to buy the land.

City-Parish President Joey Durel says the details of the land sale are expected to be worked out within the next month, but there is no plan for what the park might look like and money still needs to be raised for design and construction.

The proposal calls for city-parish government to buy the property and then rely on the Community of Foundation of Acadiana, to raise the money needed to design, build and maintain it. Durel says that the group has yet to launch a campaign to raise money for the project.
