You know if somebody has gone to the trouble to add the "palooza" suffix to an event it's going to be something special. This Saturday the Lafayette Science Museum will certainly be celebrating something special, the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11's journey to the Moon.

The museum is actually already in celebration mode. They've hosted special exhibits over the past several days dedicated to that mission that put the first man on the surface of the moon in 1969.

For those of us of a certain age, the Apollo Missions were part of what made us really proud to be Americans. Even as a six-year-old child I was extremely moved by the accomplishments of our astronauts.

I still get shivers to this day when I think about that moment when Neil Armstrong made those first footprints on the Lunar surface. It was a defining moment for me and a lot of other Americans.

Saturday's events at the Science Museum will begin a 10 in the morning and will continue until 6 pm. There is a five-dollar admission fee to view the exhibits and be a part of planetarium programs.

The evening will culminate with an evening of stargazing at Picard Park beginning at 8. Good news is the forecast for Saturday evening should allow for at least partially clear skies and some incredible views of the heavens including the Moon.
